Three-day workshop on the use of digital technology in transport and the GTFS for mobility stakeholders in Greater Abidjan

In December 2022, a 3-day training on digital applications in transportation and GTFS was organized for the agents of AMUGA and representatives of transport operators (Sotra, STL, Citrans) it was conducted by Data Transport and supported AFD and World Resources Institute through Digital Transport For Africa initiative. This training was an opportunity for transport professionals to discover the digital tools available to improve and digitalize public transport.

Module 1 of the training was focused on Open Data and OpenStreetMap Mapping. Participants discovered the advantages of Open Data, learned to use open data, and became familiar with different Open Data licenses. They also learned how to use transportation cartography tools with OpenStreetMap.

Module 2 of the training was focused on GTFS data. Participants discovered the different GTFS data formats, learned to create GTFS with Watrifeed GTFS Manager, and to perform quality checks with the GTFS validator. They also discovered TransitViz, a GTFS data visualization tool.

Module 3 of the training was focused on querying, manipulating, and visualizing data. Participants discovered different data export services such as BBBike, Overpass turbo, HOT Exports, HDX, Digital transport for Africa, and Data transport: WatriFeed-API. They also learned to use QGIS to visualize and manipulate GTFS data.

In summary, the 3-day training on digital applications in transportation and GTFS was an opportunity for transportation professionals to update themselves on the digital tools available to improve their businesses’ performance. Participants learned to use open data effectively, create GTFS, perform quality checks, and visualize and manipulate data with different tools.
